Frank H. Murkowski Office of the Governor Press Release: May 7, 2004 Contact: John Manly, Press Spokesman, 465-3500 Alaska to Refund License Fees to Deployed Alaska Military Personnel The State of Alaska, through efforts initiated by Senator Lisa Murkowski, recently adopted measures to benefit Alaska’s overseas soldiers. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG) is providing refunds to military personnel who purchased a 2003 hunting or fishing license in Alaska and were since deployed to the Middle East. “I was pleased to make a request to the State that they mitigate the expense of a purchased hunting or fishing license for those Alaskans who have been deployed overseas. This is one way to thank these men and women for their sacrifices and the considerable disruption to their and their families’ lives resulting from their activation. On behalf of all Alaskans, I would like to thank these men and women for their dedication and service to protect the quality of life we cherish as Americans,” said Lisa Murkowski, United States Senator. Over 300 Alaskan citizens have been deployed for missions overseas. All who may have bought hunting and/or fishing licenses in 2003 prior to their departure are eligible for reimbursement. License purchase refunds will be provided as soon as possible. “I am pleased to work with Senator Lisa Murkowski and in this effort to support Alaska’s men and women serving to protect the safety and freedom of Americans” said Governor Frank Murkowski. “The Fish and Game license purchase refund is a small thank you for the tremendous sacrifices and efforts they are making on our behalf.” My department will work to see that all eligible Alaska military service personnel receive their 2003 license purchase refunds as soon as possible,” said Kevin Duffy, Commissioner, ADF&G.
